Oprah Winfrey has joined prestigious U.S. news show 60 Minutes as a special contributor.
The legendary chat show host, 63, said she was delighted to work on network CBS’s flagship news magazine show as she has been a fan since her days as a young journalist in Nashville, Tennessee.
“I’ve been abig admirer of 60 Minutes since my days as a young reporter,” Oprah said in a statement. “I’m so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling.”

60 Minutes first aired in 1968, making it America’s longest-running primetime show.
Over the years it has featured some of the country’s most respected newsmen and women including Walter Cronkite, Bob Schieffer and Katie Couric.
Oprah, who has turned her popularity as a talk show host into a $3 billion media empire, said she was hoping to use her skills to explore political divisions.
“At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds,” she outlined.

The election of Donald Trump as president has divided the nation, with his actions since his inauguration on 20 January sparking protests across the country.
Praising his new employee, 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager said, “There is only one Oprah Winfrey. She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life. She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes.”
